Replicating Overview

The Replicate tool allows you to copy a 3D Objects editable attributes such as color, size, position and labels across multiple steps. If you make a change to an attribute on a single step it can be spread across the entire Jig. This can be particularly powerful in the late stages of a project when sign off teams want the small changes to a products design to be consistent across the board.

Note: Learning this tool will save you an enormous amount of time.

Object attributes

Object attributes you can replicate are:

  • Color
  • Scale
  • Rotation
  • Position
  • Labels
  • Delete an object from other steps.

Opening the Replicate Flower

Once you’ve made the changes you want to copy, select the object you’re copying from and then long press down on the attribute you want to copy in the toolbar (ie. Move tool {icon-move.svg} ).

This will bring up the Replicate menu. We call this menu the Flower. From here you can choose where along the timeline you’d like to replicate an attribute.

Replicate across one Step

To replicate a model across one step:

  1. Select the Object you want to edit.
  2. Press and hold down the attribute that you want to copy in the toolbar.
  3. This will bring up the Replicate menu.
  4. To Replicate the selected attribute forward one step, press Next Step {Icon-next.svg}.
  5. To Replicate the selected attribute back one step, press Previous Step  {Icon previous.svg}.
  6. Go forward or back a step to view the change.

Replicate across all previous or next Steps

To replicate a model across all previous steps:

  1. Select the Object you want to edit.
  2. Press and hold down the attribute that you want to copy in the toolbar.
  3. This will bring up the Replicate menu.
  4. To Replicate the selected attribute forward one step, press All Next Steps {icon-all-after.svg}.
  5. To Replicate the selected attribute back one step, press All Previous Steps {icon-all-previous.svg}.
  6. Go forward or back a step to view the change.

Replicate multiple attributes

While the Replicate Flower is open, any attribute you have selected in the toolbar, like Move {icon-move.svg} , Color {icon-colour.svg} or Labels {icon-colour.svg}, will be replicated. This means that you can select to change as many attributes as you want in one go.

To replicate multiple attributes across all steps:

  1. Select the Object you want to edit.
  2. Press and hold down the attribute that you want to copy in the toolbar.
  3. This will bring up the Replicate menu.
  4. To Replicate the selected attribute forward one step, press All Next Steps {icon-all-after.svg}.

Replicate across all Steps

When you want to make a change to a model over your entire Jig you can open up the Flower, and then select the Across All Steps {icon-all.svg} button. This will copy your change across every Step in your Jig.

Copy and Pasting Attributes

When you want to copy an attribute from one step to another without affecting the steps in between you can choose to copy and paste an attribute.

To copy and paste an attributes:

  1. To copy, press on the Copy tool {icon-copy.svg} on the lower left.
  2. Next go to the step where you want to change the attribute. Make sure to select the same model.
  3. Then in the Flower press the Paste tool {icon-paste.svg} on the lower right.
