Like custom textures you can now add videos to any 3D object to add complex motion and life to your Jigs. This requires version 3.2 of the JigSpace app.

Videos can be a fantastic way of adding further information into Jigs. You can add product videos to a scene where you explore that product in Augmented Reality. You can also incorporate your Video and 3D files together to provide a more realistic and interactive experience. Machine screens can provide realistic feedback as you show mechanical processes with 3D models.

Currently Jig supports these Video formats:

  • .MP4
  • .MOV

Videos cannot exceed a size limit of 50mb per file.

Note: It is important that your Object have a UV map and is unwrapped to be compatible with a video file.

Adding videos to your Jig

To add Videos to an Object:

  1. Tap to select the Object.
  2. Go to the Colour {icon-colour.svg} and select the Textures tab.
  3. Tap the Apply image or video button.

You will have three options for uploading video files

As a Pro subscriber you have the added option to upload a video directly within JigSpace workshop.

  1. Select the Upload file button and pick the video that you’d like to add.
  2. Tap the AR mode {icon-ar.svg} button to preview the full video in augmented reality or 3D.

To make the video brighter like a TV screen:

  1. Go to the Colour {icon-colour.svg} and select the Materials tab.
  2. Select the Unlit texture.
  3. Go to the Colour {icon-colour.svg} and set it to white.

Adding videos from Host sites

To add a video link to Jig copy and paste the link into the Link to video file Box.

We currently accept links from:

  • Web link from your website, fileserver or CMS
  • Google Drive
  • Dropbox
  • One Drive

Note: When choosing to add a video link from a host site make sure your video isn’t set to private or it will not load.

Video screen ratio templates

The JigSpace 3D model library contains some video screen template models you can use that will perfectly match the most common video ratios (16:9 or 4:3).

Most iPhones create video in 16:9 by default and professionally created content is typically displayed in this format. The iPad and a lot of archival content from history is often displayed in the 4:3 ratio, which is more ‘box-like’ in appearance.

To use these templates, search “Screen” in the 3D model library, or tap on the Miscellaneous category.

Once you have added one of these screen templates to your Jig, you can follow the steps above to add a video to the screen. Once added, you can move and resize the object accordingly.

Previewing video

Remember: whilst editing a Jig video will only display their first frame of footage.

To preview the video tap the AR {icon-ar.svg} button. The full video should play automatically when viewed in Augmented Reality or flat 3D mode.
